I began my journey as an Artist after my Art and Design Foundation at Loughborough University, in which I started thinking I’d go onto study a Textiles degree, until I was let loose in the world of Fine Art and decided that’s where I needed to be. I am now in my final year at Loughborough Uni with a bank of creative knowledge and determination to make my mark in the Creative Arts Industry.
I have accumulated a range of creative skills, including a confident approach to photography and video editing software, diorama construction, digital illustration, performance and large scale sculpture. My collaged outcomes consist of intense neons and an accumulation of childlike craft materials; this choice of textures invites viewers to engage within the work on a tactile level, whilst evoking familiar childhood memories.
The inspiration for my practise comes from my childhood nostalgia and the feeling of comfort from my past. My inner child’s ‘saturated’ perspective on life, came from the textures, sounds and smells of my tacky plastic toys I’ve collected since the early 2000s. Whether this nostalgia manifests as comfort or discomfort is secondary to the primary aim of evoking deeply personal childhood memories.
